The Guatemala Illicit Network Index (INI) includes sanctioned individuals, criminal networks and their close affiliates and family members.
The criminal organizations covered are Los Pochos, Los Huistas, and the Guatemalan branch of the MS-13. A number of criminal groups active in countries other than Guatemala are featured as connections to the Guatemalan organizations, which operate in the areas of Guatemala City, San Marcos, and Huehuetenango.
Evidencity's
unique dataset also maps sanctioned and non-sanctioned politically exposed persons with links to criminals, underscoring the entanglement of the Guatemalan government and authorities, such as the police and the judiciary, with organized crime. The administrative period for public bodies, when our team discovered close ties between Guatemalan government officials and organized crime, is the 2010s forward. This work does not include members of the current government. Finally, the INI on Guatemala furthermore identifies businesses and religious institutions belonging or providing support to the identified criminals.
